The danger to FACs and helicopters that operated from remote strips and bases in enemy-infested territory was definitely on the increase. The pilot and observer of a Bird Dog were killed on the 25th when their aircraft (call sign Elliot 1) was shot down by small arms fire as it was taking off from a landing ground called Plateau, 20 miles northeast of Kontum in the Central Highlands. |
