Lt(jg) James Scott Graham (KIA) |
A division of four A-4s was assigned to attack a SAM site five miles northeast of Thanh Hoa and close to the village of Sam Son. Lt Graham put his aircraft (call sign Battle Cry) into a 45-degree dive from 4,500 feet, but it must have been hit by AAA as the next time the leader looked in his direction Graham had ejected. The leader flew past the parachute, and Lt Graham waved his arm as he descended into the tops of some trees near the village of Kieu Thon. However, Jim Graham apparently never arrived at a North Vietnamese prison camp and was not released during Operation Homecoming. Nothing more was known until the Vietnamese repatriated his remains in August 1985, and the circumstances of his death remain a mystery. Lt Graham had served a tour on the Kitty Hawk before returning to Vietnam on the Enterprise and had flown 172 missions over Southeast Asia. |
