During a visual reconnaissance mission a Bird Dog (call sign Covey 4) was hit in the engine by small arms fire near Gong Nai, 10 miles south of Kham Duc. Lt Col Cassell crash-landed the aircraft a few miles to the north and was eventually recovered with only minor injuries. The aircraft was probably operating from one of the 20th TASS’s many forward operating locations at the time of its loss. |
