Serial Number: 52-135007
Military Unit: 1 ACS, 56 ACW
Service: USAF
Home Base: Nakhon Phanom
Name(s):
1Lt Glenn Arthur Belcher (KIA)

The 1st ACS had started to move from Pleiku to Nakhon Phanom late in October to be closer to the Ho Chi Minh Trail in southern Laos and to take part in dropping gravel munitions as a component of the Igloo White programme. It lost its tenth Skyraider of the year during a Steel Tiger strike on New Year’s Eve. 1Lt Belcher was making his third pass against vehicles on a road near Ban Phahoy, some 40 miles southeast of Nakhon Phanom. The pilot may have been hit by ground fire as the aircraft (call sign Hobo 1) rolled uncontrollably and dived into the ground close to the target without any apparent escape attempt by 1Lt Belcher. In 1994 and 1995 joint US-Lao investigations unearthed aircraft wreckage and human remains and personal effects. The remains were subsequently identified as being those of Glenn Belcher.
