| An A-6A Intruder was launched from the Kitty Hawk for a singleton daylight strike on a storage cave about three miles east of Vinh. The aircraft (call sign Flying Ace) was tracked to the target by an E-2 Hawkeye but several indications of SAM activity were received and transmitted to the crew. No radio message was received from the Intruder, which was apparently experiencing radio problems and the aircraft disappeared at the same time as the SAM warnings. A visual and signals search of the area proved negative. It was assumed that the aircraft had become the 62nd and final SAM victim of 1967. |
