| During an armed reconnaissance sortie a Skyhawk pilot was suddenly faced with a total electrical failure which, amongst other things, locked the aileron controls solid. Unable to control the aircraft the pilot was forced to eject over the sea but was picked up safely 30 miles northeast of Da Nang. Lt Schindelar completed two tours in Southeast Asia flying 204 combat missions before retiring from the Navy to fly DC-9s for Delta Airlines. |
