The 21st TASS lost another aircraft on the 19th but with more serious consequences. Maj Blair and his observer, A1C Romero, were flying a visual reconnaissance sortie over a mountainous region about 65 miles west of Nha Trang. The aircraft (call sign Walt 3) failed to return to base, and its wreckage was later found on the slopes of Yook Nam Rmay, a 4,731 feet mountain near Duc Xuyen. The cause of the loss remains unknown. Maj Blair was successively promoted to the rank of Colonel, and Airmen Romero to Senior Master Sargeant during the time they were listed as missing. |
