| Capt Payne was on his way to control a strike in his Bird Dog when he came under small arms fire about 5 miles west of Cao Lanh on the banks of the Mekong. The engine stopped but Capt Payne brought the aircraft down to an almost perfect forced landing. Both crew were later rescued by a HH-43 Huskie. |
