| A Covey FAC (call sign Covey 53) was lost during a forward air control mission in the Steel Tiger area of southern Laos. Capt Smith is thought to have come down near Ban Daktring, about 25 miles southwest of Kham Duc, probably as the result of anti-aircraft fire. Another aircraft in the area heard an emergency beeper signal but a search failed to find any trace of Capt Smith. |
