| During a test flight over the Gulf of Tonkin a Skyhawk suffered a generator failure. Lt Cdr Callaghan radioed that he was returning to the ship and set up a long straight approach to the carrier. All went well until the last few seconds before touchdown when the aircraft started to bank to the left. The nose dropped and the aircraft crashed into the LSO’s platform before plunging into the sea. |
