| A Bird Dog (call sign Sidewinder) was hit by ground fire as it was orbiting at 1,500 feet during a FAC mission near Phuoc Vinh, 35 miles north of Saigon. The aircraft crashed close to enemy troops and although the pilot was killed, the observer survived the crash and was later rescued by an Army helicopter. Capt Fabian’s remains were recovered post-war and were buried in Arlington National Cemetery. |
