| A Phantom (call sign Sharkbait 71) was shot down as it was attacking Viet Cong positions only two miles north of Tan Son Nhut airport. Capt Needham was making his third pass when his aircraft was hit in the tail and set alight by ground fire. The crew ejected seconds later but being so close to Tan Son Nhut they were quickly picked up by one of the base HH-43Bs of Detachment 14, 38th ARRS. |
