| The A Shau Valley maintained its infamous reputation of being a particularly ‘hot’ area and claimed yet another aircraft on the 24th. Capt Herron (call sign Bilk 23) was flying a FAC mission over the Valley at low level when his aircraft was hit by small arms fire. He was too low to bail out so he crash-landed the Bird Dog and was injured. He was later extricated by friendly ground troops and evacuated out of the area by a HH-3E from the 37th ARRS. |
