| Capt Hoag and his Marine Corps observer, 1Lt Dover, were killed while on a FAC mission near Lang Phuoc Hai, 15 miles northeast of Vung Tau. They were controlling an air strike on Viet Cong rocket and mortar launching sites when their O-2’s tail was blown off by ground fire. Both men died when the aircraft (call sign Kenny) crashed before they could bail out. |
