Lt Cdr George Francis Talken (KIA)

The last aircraft lost by the Kitty Hawk before it left the line on 16 August and returned to the USA was a Corsair that had an engine problem as it was returning from a combat mission. The aircraft crashed as the pilot was flying a radar-directed approach to the carrier. Battle damage was not thought to be the cause but could not be ruled out either. The Kitty Hawk had spent a total of 111 days on the line during its fourth tour off Vietnam. During this time the ship had lost three aircraft in combat and four due to accidental causes.
