| An O-2 (call sign Eliot 1) from the 21st TASS’s detachment at Kontum was shot down by ground fire during a visual reconnaissance mission 20 miles to the northeast of Dak To. The rear engine was hit and put out of action and the aircraft crashed but Capt Rankin stepped out of the wreck with just minor injuries. A US Army helicopter quickly rescued him. |
