A Bronco on a visual reconnaissance mission over southern Laos was shot down by 37mm flak 10 miles west of Ban Thapachon. The pilot (call sign Nail 37) ejected safely as the aircraft spun into the ground. Capt Russell was later recovered by one of the locally-based HH-3Es having suffered only minor injuries.
