The FACs from Nakhon Phanom flew FAC missions for the Barrel Roll campaign as well as for the Steel Tiger strikes. On the 21st Capt Richmond was flying near Ban Muangphan on the eastern edge of the Plain of Jars when his Bronco (call sign Nail) was hit twice by 37mm flak. The port wing caught fire and the pilot ejected and was rescued by an Air America helicopter.
