| VA-97 lost another aircraft during a Steel Tiger mission four days after Lt Hoffman’s aircraft was shot down. Lt Hamilton (call sign War Ace 302) was bombing a truck park near Ban Dakpok, 30 miles north of Muang Fangdeng, when he was shot down. He was pulling up from his second pass over the target when his Corsair was hit by 23mm AAA. He continued to climb to about 7,500 feet and ejected as the aircraft started to nose over into its terminal dive. He was rescued by an Air America helicopter which was in the vicinity at the time. |
