An O-2 FAC collided in mid-air with a US Army AH-1G Cobra helicopter (68-15121) over Cambodia and crashed killing both crew in each aircraft. The Cobra was from the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment from Quan Loi and was being flown by CW2 William Wesley Davis and WO1 Steven Joseph Greenlee. The O-2 was in a climbing right turn and the AH-1G was in a descending orbit at the time of the collision. The helicopter’s rotor blades sliced off a large section of the O-2’s port wing and also damaged the cockpit area. The Cobra’s rotor hub separated from the mast and both aircraft fell into dense jungle. |
