The third fixed-wing aircraft lost in Cambodia was a Bird Dog (call sign Bomber 4) that was providing forward air control in support of ground troops near Vott Prek Cham, 25 miles southeast of Phnom Penh and on the banks of the Mekong River. The Bird Dog was flying at about 4,000 feet when it was hit by automatic weapons or small arms fire. 1Lt Blackman crash-landed the aircraft a few miles to the south and was rescued by a US Army helicopter. |
