An O-1 (call sign Mike 3) went missing during a visual reconnaissance flight in the Central Highlands. The aircraft took off from Pleiku and headed for Ben Het, the crew’s first destination, before proceeding to Dak Seang Camp. However, at some stage in the flight the crew failed to report in by radio and calls from various ground stations were not answered. The weather was very poor at the time and a search could not be mounted until the next day. The search continued until the 19th but to no avail. Capt Hilbrick was an Operations Officer with the Army’s 5th Special Forces Group. |
