A Bronco was flying a visual reconnaissance mission southeast of the A Shau Valley when the pilot spotted what looked like a road repair vehicle near the village of Tala. As he flew over the vehicle at 6,500 feet the Bronco (call sign Nail) was hit by AAA and badly damaged. Capt Loar headed southwest and eventually ejected near Muang Khongxedon from where he was rescued by an Air America helicopter that was based nearby.
