The radio call sign Rustic was used by O-2 and OV-10 FACs during missions over Cambodia from June 1970 to August 1973. The observers were usually French-speakers as they had to communicate with Cambodian government troops who often spoke French but no English. The 19th TASS flew most of the Rustic missions from Bien Hoa and Tan Sonh Nhut until the mission was transferred to Ubon in November 1971. An O-2 Rustic crew was shot down and killed during a FAC mission in Cambodia. 1Lt Eddy’s aircraft was hit by automatic weapons fire about 25 miles northwest of Kampong Cham and crashed in flames. |
