| A Bronco (call sign Helix 39) suffered an engine failure after takeoff on a FAC mission and crashed off the coast. Some sources indicate he was taking off from Chu Lai instead of his home base at Da Nang. A HH-53C from the 37th ARRS picked up the unconscious Maj Allenberg. The rescue personnel found him face down in the water and performed CPR while they took him to the hospital at Chu Lai, where he was pronounced dead. |
