Maj Harold Benton Lineberger (KIA) |
Maj Lineberger (call sign Spike 7) was controlling an air strike on Route 13 about 20 miles northeast of the town of Kratie in Cambodia when he was shot down. Route 13 was the main road running from Saigon through Cambodia and into Laos and was being used by the North Vietnamese to bring men and supplies into South Vietnam. Maj Lineberger had destroyed several motorised sampans in the area in the two days before he was shot down and had seen an abandoned truck on Route 13. He was returning to destroy the truck when his aircraft was hit by ground fire and crashed. A search was conducted for several days but there was no sign of the pilot who probably died when his aircraft crashed. |
