| An O-2 set off from Chu Lai for a FAC mission to the south of Da Nang in support of the 23rd Infantry Division. The aircraft (call sign Jake) was shot down by ground fire near Ton Bon, 20 miles southwest of Quang Tri and the pilot was posted missing. The area was searched for a week but there was no sign of 1Lt Kennedy or his aircraft. Unlike many FAC pilots, 1Lt Kennedy was relatively inexperienced having only received his wings in October 1970. His remains were recovered from Vietnam during field investigations in 1992 and 1993 and positively identified on 25 June 1996. |
