A Bronco was lost while on a FAC mission in southern Laos. The aircraft was shot down by AAA about 20 miles northeast of Saravan. 1Lt Hardy bailed out and his parachute was seen on the ground. He radioed that he was going to evade down down a specific route but he was not heard from again and was probably killed by Laotian troops. 1Lt Hardy’s remains were handed over by a Laotian in September 1983 and buried in Highland Cemetery, Massachusetts two months later. The day after this incident the 504th TASG was inactivated and control of the 23rd TASS was transferred to the 56th SOW as part of the general reduction and consolidation of US forces in Southeast Asia. |
