Two of the three USAF aircraft lost at An Loc on this day were O-2 FACs that were controlling the hundreds of aircraft which were contributing to the defence of the camp. Capt Allmond, using the cal-sign Chico 1, was controlling a strike when his aircraft was hit by AAA and crashed before he could bail out. Some sources claim that the two O-2s lost on the 11th were shot down by SA-7 SAMs which were seen in some numbers around An Loc from the 11th onwards. Capt Allmond had earlier controlled the strike on which 1Lt Blassie was shot down. |
