Military Unit: 23 TASS, 56 SOW

Home Base: Nakhon Phanom
Name(s):
1Lt John Sundgren (Survived)

A Bronco(call sign Nail 36) suffered an engine failure as it was taking off from Da Nang on a FAC mission. The aircraft crashed but the pilot survived. A HH-43 from the 37th ARRS was already in the air when the OV-10 pilot radioed that he was in trouble and the helicopter had to avoid being hit by the Bronco as it passed close by. Lt W Latham and Lt J Moulton saw the OV-10 pilot parachute into a rice paddy and landed their Huskie close by. The pilot was picked up one minute and 30 seconds after ejecting, probably one of the fastest rescues in the history of the war.
