Capt Ronald Edward Storz (POW (died))

Capt Storz was a FAC pilot who was flying alone over the Ben Hai River near the 17th Parallel when he inadvertently crossed over the DMZ and was shot down by ground fire. It is not known why Capt Storz was shot down almost 500 miles north of Tan Son Nhut. He was captured and eventually imprisoned in isolation in Hanoi where he endured extremely harsh treatment as a result of his refusal to co-operate with his jailors. He died in captivity on 23 April 1970 from illness and untreated injuries. His remains were repatriated and formally identified by the Central Identification Laboratory – Thailand on 22 April 1974 and later interred in Arlington National Cemetery. Lt Col Storz originally served as a navigator in a B-47 Stratojet squadron before being accepted for pilot training and becoming an instructor pilot at Webb AFB. He trained as a FAC at Eglin AFB before deploying to South Vietnam in November 1964.
