Following the loss of an O-1 on the 2nd, the 21st TASS lost another aircraft and crew two days later. Maj Andrews was flying with an observer who was still undergoing training in the art of visual reconnaissance and forward air control. The aircraft took off from Qui Nhon airfield on the coast and later made radio contact with a nearby Special Forces Camp at Van Canh and were asked to check on campfires that had been sighted in the area. The aircraft failed to arrive at its destination and no further radio messages were received. Andrews and Conlon simply disappeared over the South Vietnamese jungle. |
