| Two days after Capt Smith’s Skyraider was hit near the Ban Karai Pass, a Bird Dog FAC (call sign Gombey 19) was hit by .50 calibre gunfire at almost the same location and was brought down near a recently-discovered section of the Trail. Capt Harley was controlling attacks by fighters and was reporting the results when his radio suddenly went dead. The wreckage was seen burning on the ground but there was no sign of the crew. |
