| The FACs were often used to search for missing aircraft as well as performing their primary function of controlling air strikes. A US Army helicopter went missing near Katum and a Bird Dog was despatched from Bien Hoa to assist the search for the helicopter. The Bird Dog (call sign Rod)) never returned from the mission and the wreck was found some time later close to the Cambodian border. The cause of the crash was not determined. |
