| In October and November drier weather in southern Laos resulted in increased enemy movement in the Tiger Hound area requiring an increase in air operations to counter the renewed enemy effort. An O-1E was returning from a FAC mission when it was hit by gunfire five miles south of Kham Duc. The pilot was killed in the ensuing crash but the observer, who was an Army officer and a member of a Shining Brass team, survived with major injuries and was rescued by a HH-43F SAR helicopter from Da Nang. |
